An initial psychological consultation generally provides an opportunity to understand what has brought you to therapy, what you are currently experiencing, and what you would like help with. Your psychologist may ask about current concerns, important life circumstances, health history, relationships, work and other relevant information.
You do not need to arrive with a perfectly organised explanation of your difficulties — part of the psychologist's role is helping you make sense of what you are experiencing. The type of therapy recommended will depend on your concerns, goals and circumstances; treatment should be tailored rather than based on a one-size-fits-all approach.
