Experience that spans different settings and life experiences
Dr Raksha Lutchman is a Clinical Psychologist with more than 30 years of professional experience. She holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and a Doctorate in Behavioural Medicine, bringing together psychological science, behavioural understanding and a strong appreciation of the way mental and physical health can interact.
Her career has included work in acute mental health facilities, rehabilitation services, pain clinics, neuropsychological rehabilitation, forensic mental health, corrective services and private practice. This varied background has exposed her to both common psychological concerns and complex presentations that require careful assessment, patience and structured clinical thinking.
An international and culturally informed clinical background
Dr Lutchman trained in South Africa, worked for many years in New Zealand and has practiced in Sydney for more than a decade. Working across countries, health systems and communities has shaped a culturally attentive approach to therapy. Rather than assuming that one model fits every person, she considers how family, culture, values, identity, work, health and life experience influence the way distress is understood and expressed.
Evidence-based, collaborative treatment
Depending on the concern and the person’s needs, Dr Lutchman may draw on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, mindfulness-based strategies, psychoeducation, solution-focused therapy and neuropsychotherapy. Therapy is not about applying a technique mechanically. The aim is to select and adapt evidence-based methods in a way that fits the individual, their goals and their readiness for change.
Supervision and professional education
In addition to client therapy, Dr Lutchman provides clinical supervision to other psychologists, including supervision within professional registration pathways where appropriate. Her work as a trainer, assessor and Mental Health First Aid educator reflects a long-standing commitment to professional development and psychologically informed communities.
A personal practice model
Psychology Headquarters is deliberately practitioner-led. You are not choosing from a rotating team or being matched after an intake call. The website is designed to help you understand Dr Lutchman’s background, areas of work and locations before you decide whether to enquire. If your needs fall outside her current scope or availability, an appropriate alternative may be recommended when possible.
